It took about 15 minutes to drive from the airport to the port. The roads were a mix of very rutted half paved/half dirt with lots of cars, bicycle Rickshaws, motorcycles, and people walking. The town reminded me of Haiti with lots of colorful buildings, mostly small, cinderblock type structures but also concrete buildings. All along the side of the road were people sitting or standing under tarps, or pieces of tin or woven shelters selling mangos. There were mango sellers all along the road but there looked to be few customers. There were palm trees waving in the breeze. We then turned onto more of a highway that was right along the shore. The waves crashed against a breakwater. There were some large freight or tug boats that had clearly run aground and were stuck. There were also many small canoes with outriggers like they have in Hawaii which were used for fishing.

We rounded a corner and started to see large freight ships and Dock Buildings. As we got closer we could see the Mercy Ships Logo over some of the buildings. Then we were right there with the ship towering over us and the gangplank ahead of us. It was very exciting!!
More tomorrow on what the ship is like inside!
